Pour a normal ladle on hot stones and it lands in one place, all at once. You get a hard slug of steam, a hiss, and then it's over. Regn is Swedish for rain, which is what this ladle creates.

Regn has a perforated plate across the pour lip. The water breaks into dozens of separate streams before it reaches the stones, so it falls like rain.

That is the difference between steam that hits you and löyly that arrives.

Why the length

21 inches (54 cm). Long enough to reach the stove from a seated position without leaning into the heat, and long enough to keep you away from the initial burst of steam.

The ladle produces a real pour rather than a splash. About 1.25lbs (550g), so it has weight in the hand without being tiring.

What we are still testing

We are not going to tell you this is finished when it is not.

We put a test ladle in salt water for forty eight hours and found corrosion along the weld lines. The parent steel was untouched, including dozens of raw cut edges on the pour plate, so the metal is sound. The welds had not been properly cleaned and passivated after welding. That is now a written requirement, and the next samples are in process and will be tested the same way.

Final dimensions may change once production samples are tested and finalized.

Availability

Not yet available. Leave your email and we will tell you the day it is.

Likely available towards the end of the year, but that depends on how the next samples perform in testing.

Materials

Cup: AISI 304 stainless steel. Independently tested by optical emission spectrometry: 18.19% chromium, 8.28% nickel. Report available upon request.

Weld Seams: Pickled and passivated after welding to ASTM A380 and A967, using ER308L filler. No carbon steel tooling touches the stainless at any stage.

Handle: Base American Ash. No oil, no wax, no laquer, no varnish, no stain.

Ferrule Screw: A2 (304) austentic stainless.

Plastic: None. Anywhere.

Dimensions

In final testing/sampling stages. Final dimensions TBD.

Care

Do not leave water standing in the cup. Empty and dry it after each session. Stainless is not invulnerable, and the places it gives up first are the weld seams where water sits.

Keep it out of the hot room between sessions, for the handle rather than the cup. The handle is bare wood in a metal ferrule, and wood that dries hard enough will shrink inside the metal and work loose.

If a brown stain appears, use a non-chlorine cleaner and a non-metallic pad. Something like Bar Keepers Friend. Never steel wool. Steel wool leaves iron particles embedded in the surface, and those particles rust and stain the steel around them. We know this because that is exactly what we found when we salt-tested our own samples.

No bleach and no chlorine cleaners, ever. Chloride is the one thing that genuinely attacks stainless steel.

No dishwasher. There is wood on this.
